Aftercare Ministries
United Methodist and other Christians in Central Pennsylvania make a difference in the lives of prisoners and their families after they leave prison through transitional living centers and halfway houses such as Daystar Center for Spiritual Recovery in Harrisburg and Promise Place in Steelton. Daystar's ministry includes residential drug and alcohol treatment; spiritual discipline; cooperation with Alcoholics Anonymous; ministry to incarcerated youth; educational workshops on drug and alcohol recovery; and a re-entry house known as Star Fellowship.
Other services in central Pennsylvania include employment services, educational scholarships, housing, counseling, life skills training, mentoring programs and other similar avenues that support persons as they develop an independent, responsible life in the community.
Hospitality House
Bridge Haven is a ministry that provides overnight lodging and meals to families visiting inmates at Muncy Prison, Lycoming County Prison, Lewisburg and Allenwood Federal Penitentiaries. Yokefellow Center in Williamsport is often used for the Bridge Haven ministry.

Camp Scholarships
In a cooperative effort with the Camping and Retreats Commission (CRC), the Prison Ministry Committee of the Central Pennsylvania Conference provides scholarships to allow children of Central Pennsylvania prisoners to participate in Christian summer camping experiences. This is a program by which churches or chaplains can seek half the funds needed for children of inmates to attend a summer Christian camping program, while the churches are expected to provide the other half. Contact the Chair of the Prison Ministry Committee for more information. |
