A Statement from the Bishop on the Tragedy in Southeast Asia

December 29, 2004

When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears, and rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:17-18

As we hear the reports of unbelievable tragedy in Southeast Asia, we are called: to join our sisters and brothers in weeping, to pray for God’s presence in the midst of the tragedy and to respond with acts of compassion.

Thanks to our continuing support of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) teams are already present in that area assessing damage and bringing a healing response. Contributions can be made through the Central Pennsylvania Conference for UMCOR’S “South Asia Emergency” relief efforts. Make your check payable to CPC and note on the memo line Advance#274305 “South Asia Emergency”. Thank you for caring.
